The Field Service Technician (Office & Mailing Equipment) is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing commercial office hardware—including multifunction copiers, production printers, digital postage meters, folding/inserting systems, and envelope printers. This role blends hands-on electro-mechanical repair with client-facing support and basic network integration.

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance & Technical Support

  • Installation & Setup: On-site installation, configuration, and network integration of copiers, printers, and automated mailing equipment at client locations.
  • Diagnostics & Repair: Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and firmware failures. Replace worn components (rollers, drums, fusers, belts, sensors, feed wheels) and clear complex paper/envelope jams.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Perform scheduled cleanings, component lubrications, calibration checks, and software/firmware updates to ensure optimal equipment performance and limit downtime.
  • Network & Software Configuration: Configure IP addresses, print drivers, scan-to-email/folder settings, and mail meter network syncing for postal rate updates.

Customer & Administrative Duties

  • Customer Training: Educate end-users on basic machine operations, proper media loading, clearing minor jams, and replacing consumables (toner, ink, postage tape).
  • Inventory & Field Logistics: Maintain an accurate inventory of replacement parts, tools, and supplies in a service vehicle.
  • Service Ticketing: Log service calls, diagnostic notes, parts used, and work hours within the company’s ticketing or ERP system in a timely manner.

Key Qualifications & Requirements

Typical Requirement

Education

High School Diploma or GED; Associate Degree or Vocational Certification in Electronics, Mechanical Repair, or IT preferred.

Technical Skills

Strong electro-mechanical aptitude, familiarity with multimeters and hand tools, basic understanding of TCP/IP networking, print drivers, and OS connectivity.

Physical & Travel

Clean driving record, ability to lift up to 50 lbs, and comfortable standing, bending, or kneeling for extended periods.
